Integrated Crop Management

CleanStart is a unique modern programme to optimise soil biology, ensuring the best start for the crop to achieve maximum potential and safeguarding the quality needed to meet the demands of the end markets and retailers. The programme allows continuity of cropping and sustainability of production for both indoor and outdoor crops, whilst meeting stringent food safety requirements.

In the CleanStart portfolio we build the best application programmes including biorational products in combination with conventional products and with other techniques (such as solarisation, soil mulching, rootstock, etc.).

The principle of a pest/disease free start of a cropping cycle is the backbone of every sustainable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) based system; when starting a new cycle in fumigated soil, the need for additional treatments to control nematodes, fungi and weeds is much reduced and, in many situations, no additional treatment for soil pests is needed. This ensures a much-reduced risk of residues in the produce and a lower risk for consumers, low risk of resistance development and increased safety for workers and the environment.

Product Stewardship

Potential risks for human beings (consumers, users, bystanders, residents) and the environment, related to the use of soil fumigants are known and managed under the Stewardship Programmes in place.

Key components of the Certis CleanStart Stewardship Programme are:

  • Best Management Practices to minimise human and environmental impact;
  • Communication on product profiles, storage and application/disposal requirements;
  • Training programme and validation of professional applicators/operators;
  • Inspection and adjustment of application machinery;
  • Investigation and communication on the most efficient types of gas-tight film;
  • Field monitoring of applications.
